'THE BEST WEEKEND AWAY I'VE EVER HAD' - 'BLINDING' BIRTHDAY BASH IS A SUCCESS!!!
Dougie's birthday bash was in the French village of Wissant.
Invited guests were treated to a meal in the fabulous Admiral Benbow Restaurant.
It is so named because the Parisian owner's favourite book is Treasure Island and their original seaside retreat is now a quality restaurant that opens only at weekends.
The owner is quite a character and the food is out of this world.
The Pirates Menu was:
Cocktail surprise et Amuse-bouche
---
Saumon cru marine au citron
Terrine de fibrer (Game Pate)
---
Cabillaud au safran
Saute de porc sauce au vin
---
Gateau au Chocolat
---
Cafe
---
Anjou Gamay was the wine
It was a fabulous meal and a memorable night prompting me to give a short and incoherent speech.
This was followed by a rendition of the song Admiral Benbow and All The Good Times featuring these gits who were in the original Tundra.
There is a large dining room that staged the instrument bash on Saturday night with Dougie,Chris Taylor, Ian Cutler, Alex, Brad Holland, Simon, Mick all playing to a variety of percussionists!
The rooms were comfortable and most had private facilities of one sort or another.
The food was excellent with the starter of a small casserole of mussels and leeks being one of the highlights of the weekend.
Other dishes on Saturday were pate de campagne OR Maroilles cheese tart followed by
either local fish catch of the day OR country chicken in honey and lemon OR rabbit casserolled in honey and cider.
This was followed by either Maitre Phillips choice of mature local cheeses OR bitter coffee crme brulee OR spiced bitter coffee and rhubarb ice cream.
On the Sunday morning a constitutional walk took place in the pouring rain and most people managed to get up before being thrown out of their rooms. Always one or two exceptions, of course.
The hotel has a website if you want further informationand there's also some details about Wissant which is quite interesting..
